Frequently Asked Questions for Makeup Artists
As a makeup artist I get asked the same questions a lot. So I thought I would compile a little blog with some frequently asked questions for all you brides to be.
Are you trained?
Yes, I trained at the Academy of Makeup in Glasgow. I had the best time learning there in a supportive and creative environment. They gave great training, with specific bridal training so I have all the information I need to do your wedding makeup.
What brands do you use?
One of of the great things about being a freelance makeup artist Edinburgh is I can pick and choose and use the best products from across many different brands. Most of my makeup is MAC, NARS, Illamasqua, Chanel, Sara Hill, Dior, Anastasia Beverly Hill, Laura Mercier, Becca & Tom Ford. All products are tried and tested, making sure I carry kit for every skin colour and type.
How do I secure a booking?
I take a £20 deposit by bank transfer to secure your booking. This will then be taken off your final bill. Once your deposit is paid I will send over your receipt and will no longer take booking for that day that will conflict with your wedding. Unfortunately I cannot hold a date until the deposit has been paid.
When do I need to pay the balance? How do you like to receive it?
I require the final balance on or before the day of your wedding. I have a card machine I bring with me or cash is also great. If you would rather not be dealing with payments on the day you can pay your balance to the bank details you paid your deposit to.
Would you recommend a trial?
Short answer, yes! I strongly advise for a trial for the bride and anyone who may be a little anxious about getting their makeup done. It gives complete peace of mind to you and you know exactly what your makeup is going to look like on the day. I would recommend a trial anytime 6 months to 6 weeks before the wedding, when you have something that means you can test the makeup. How long does it take per person?
My approximate timings are 45 minutes per person, 1 hour for the bride. However, I can tailor timings to what is necessary for your wedding morning. If necessary it can be 30mins per person.
How many people can you accommodate?
I can individually do 7 people per bridal party. If you have a larger bridal party I have other amazing artists I work with and together we can cater for more numbers.
Do you have any advice for timings for the wedding morning?
Yes, here a few things to think about from my experience of being around on wedding mornings. Are you having your photographer with your for bridal preparations? If so, do you want them to capture you in your dress? If you do then you will need to be ready roughly an hour before, sometimes more if your photographer has to travel to the venue. Always give more time to get into your dress than you think you need, you want to be relaxed and enjoy the moment!
Do you do hair too?
Yes, I also do hair styling for smaller bridal parties of 3 people or less.
I’m worried about a skin condition, can you help?
Of course! I find quite often brides are feeling a little run down by the time it’s their big day, which is why my kit is filled with products to soothe, cover and enhance your skin. We would discuss anything in particular you are worried about before your big day to give you complete peace of mind!
