It’s official – contouring is out, strobing is in! This new makeup craze is set to take over. We are seeing this natural makeup technique everywhere from the runways to magazine covers and now everyone wants to know how to achieve the look. Although I personally love this fresh approach to makeup I’m not quite convinced contouring is out quite yet. I still have clients asking me to contour them almost every appointment. Well lets face it, who doesn’t want to be the most sculpted version of their self!?
Strobing is the art of glowing skin and lots of illuminating and highlighting your features. Such a beautiful look, especially in the sunshine, that’s if we ever get any 😉 But how do you achieve this I hear you ask. Here are my tips…
Firstly, it’s all about the base. Strobing is about making your skin glow, you’re aiming to make it look like you’re not wearing any makeup at all. Mixing your usual base with an illuminator is a really easy way to achieve this look. I particularly like the look MACs strobe cream gives. Plus it hydrating so won’t dry your skin out – double win.
Now that you’re skin is glowing it’s time to strategically place the highlighter in all the places the sun would naturally hit and that you want to bring forward. Obviously, what works for one persons face might not work for everyone, so you adapt and only put highlighter where works for you. Initially apply a cream highlighter in upward strokes to everywhere necessary and then set with either a translucent powder or I personally love to set it with a powder highlighter. The great thing about this look is it’s really forgiving and fun to have a play around with. Enjoy!
