Wedding Makeup

Bridal makeup advice.

Your wedding day is arguably one of the most important days of your life, with pictures that you will treasure forever. So, how do you choose what makeup to wear on the day? From my own personal wedding experience and as a makeup artist doing trials on lovely brides-to-be, I thought I would share a few top tips.

You want to look like you!

This may sound obvious but you don’t want to walk down the aisle for your groom to not recognise you. If you don’t normally wear big smokey eyes, your wedding day is probably not the day to start. You want to feel comfortable and your makeup should be natural and flattering, like yourself on a really good day.

Get inspired

I’m sure many of you have already discovered Pinterest (if not, you must!) – it is a great place to have a look at lots of different styles of makeup you could try! You can then share some ideas that catch your eye with your makeup artist, so they can come armed with suggestions and all the right products. It also gives great hints and tips about for your wedding day. I was hooked!

Have a trial

Or two or three! A trial lets you experiment with different styles and find the perfect look. You want to be completely happy with both the makeup and the makeup artist, and a trial can last as long as you need. I had the pleasure of doing wedding makeup for a good friend recently. She didn’t know what she wanted, but she certainly knew what she didn’t want! So we took it step by step, getting each section right until she was completely satisfied. Then she wore the makeup all day to ensure it would stand the test of time. That way she knew she could dance the night away and not have to worry.

Hire a professional for the day

I promise I’m not just saying that because I’m a professional makeup artist. A professional knows how to prepare and look after your skin properly. This is essential to how your makeup will last and sit on your skin. A professional can also tailor makeup to suit your face shape, eye shape and colouring. It may also save you money – really! You pay for the professional skills but also the quality of products – the cost of these products may easily amount to more than the cost of hiring a professional for the day

My wedding morning was bliss. My bridesmaids and I were so relaxed and comfortable in the safe hands of our hair stylist and makeup artist. Choosing the right makeup artist for you and the right makeup will ensure your wedding morning will be everything you dreamed it would be!
